St Mary's Loch  Boreland Valley

Boreland village is about 7 miles north Lockerbie where there are good local amenities and  a golf course.  Lochmaben, about another 5 miles away also has a golf course and some lochs, one of which offers sailing.  If you head north from the village towards Eskdalemuir you can lose yourself in the wilds of the Borders, one of the emptiest landscapes in the UK.

  One of the locals!

The nearest town is Dumfries, an excellent shopping centre and full of history.  The birthplace of Robert Burns, Scotland's national bard, who lived in the area for most of his short life.  For a unique view of the city visit the Camera Obscura!

Both Glasgow and Edinburgh are less than 2 hours drive away.  The cross country route to Edinburgh takes in the source of the river Tweed and meanders all the way down the river's valley towards Peebles.

The village of Moffat is a great place to take in, an attractive 19th century spa town, it is full of wee shops and cafes.  The Station Park in the summer is a riot of planting and regularly wins prizes for the floral displays.
